Energy Benefits and Savings

Thermal mass is the ability of a material to maintain a more consistent temperature. Clay tiles have a high thermal mass that effectively helps to make the building more comfortable and reduce peak energy demands.
Custom and Production Home Builders across the country are using the HERS Index to sell their homes. Recently, REM/Rate v12.93 incorporated the energy benefit of tile roofing into building envelope calculations. This revision has the potential to improve HERS rating scores on homes by upgrading to a clay roof.***

Truly Lightweight

Intentionally designed for reroofing, Monterey™ Shake 600 weighs up to 40% less than a standard product. Installation does not typically require structural reinforcement.**** Produced from the same natural materials as our traditional clay products, this lightweight tile offers superior performance, artisan style, and kiln-fired color pallets with up to 40% less weight.

Natural Colors

Modeled after traditional heavy hand-split cedar shakes, Boral Roofing’s Monterey™ Shake 600 was developed to deliver a true rustic, realistic wood appearance, while adding the long lasting benefits of clay.

****Some local ordinances may require permits to be obtained prior to starting any new roof or reroofing work, depending on your location. Most contractors will handle this for you, but it is a good idea to understand your local building codes, and make sure you know whether or not your home needs to be inspected by a licensed engineer or building inspector.
